I think their saving grace will be the people who cannot afford the full price of phones and depend on the contract price. Not sure how many of them there are compared to those who can pay full price, but I quit getting my phones at Verizon. Now, I get mine at BestBuy and put it on my card so I can pay it off in 6 months.I think VZW is going to screw themselves over, and are acting rather arrogant on this. Folks that do the math, repeatedly show a significant savings buying the phone outright versus re-upping at new contracted prices and durations. What this new data implementation encourages, is to do exactly that: bail on your contracted services, full price phones from now on with a cheap grandfathered plan. That cannot be a long-term upside strategy. Their arrogance is that they bet their churn will remain low because they're 'the biggest fastest' yadda yadda, which really isn't a competitive advantage, when a customer is weighing real dollars.
But I'll jump to T-Mobile or All-Tel and just buy unlocked phones if Verizon keeps up their crap. The wife even mentioned jumping to Straight Talk, but I need a decent Android phone. And she's been a Big Red customer since 1999.
I would jump ship myself but Verizon is the only provider in my neck of the woods with decent coverage so they've got me by the calzones! lol

Yeah, they're the best here too. At work, the guys on AT&T & Sprint have to walk outside to get a signal. T-Mobile has okay coverage and AllTel was the best until the buy out took part of their network. (I live in one of the areas where the monopoly agreement kept AllTel alive.)
Yep NO one gets a signal at my house but VZ. I can almost see the tower from my house. 5 bars. With AT&T your phone wont even ring. You will eventually get a text that said you have a voice mail. I hand a lot of visitors my phone.![]()
Everyone gets service at mine, and everyone gets great data at my house too, except me, Verizon
This is when wifi becomes useful

TMO's frequencies are notoriously poor indoors....fortunately we have a Wifi calling app free from TMO, and all my calls at work and home go through wifi, and no per minute charges. Always a great signal in the car and out and about.![]()
I've never actually known anyone on Tmobile.... Give that brave man a cigar!
