IMO, this phone is plenty snappy despite all the bloatware. If you want to get into rooting, then there are roms that are basically stock with all the bloatware removed. They are fully functional (e.g. camera, sms, email,...). They just have the approprirate things removed. They tend to get slightly better battery life and are marginally snappier, but really, honestly, this is the first android phone I've ran that has been quick and nearly lag free right out of the box.

In short, no real reason to worry about it unless you really like to control your phone (which many of us here do).

I find my standard op procedure is:

    1. Identify an app I'm not so fond of that's gotta go

    2. Pull up the info page on the app (from dragging it to "info" or from App Manager in settings)

    3. Disable it if I can. If it says "uninstall updates" I do that first then it will let you know if it can be disabled

.. No root required up to this point.

    4. If I can't disable it, and it's gotta go, AND I know it's safe to do so, I go to <enter preferred app here.. titanium, rom toolbox, etc> and freeze that rascal chilly.
.. Since 3 or 4 one will take care of typical bloat system apps, I don't actually delete them just in case for some odd reason it causes an issue.

Good!! Welcome!! Now I got a source to ask for stuff about the 08 Si (FA5) I'm driving.

I'm glad to see someone already posted the disable app option. Sometimes you can't do that, though, and you'd have to root in order to get rid of the app. However, most of the time you can disable the crap that ships with the phone that you don't want to run!

    Re: NOOB with a question...

Thanks for all the replies! Lots of useful info I just discovered the disable function after I did a factory reset (T-Mobile told me to since I upgraded from 2gig unlimited to truly unlimited and the stupid "over allowance" triangle with the exclamation point was driving me crazy.. . Didn't do anything but make it "fresh out of the box" which mean re-downloading all of my apps.

No more notifications for updates for apps I'll never use, Yayyy! Lol

So, get rid of ATK? It seems to speeding things up, and there's sooo much stuff running that I don't need :/

Also, I'm gonna look into that freezer program a couple of you mentioned, when I get to work tonight, I'll post up more on that later

For all of my fellow Honda owners, feel free to ask me any questions you have, I'm relatively good at explaining things in a way that people who don't belong anywhere near a tool box can get things done successfully *thumbs up*

Most of those apps will restart, thereby eating up more battery and making it more sluggish. Hey if its working for you...

Best way is to nuke that bloatware. Delete or freeze the apps you don't need. Titanium backup is perfect for freezing apps. Custom roms usually have the offending apps already removed. Good luck

Nah ATK circumvents android's abilities to manage apps itself. I'm not a fan.

Get those apps you don't want either uninstalled, disabled or frozen and be careful with settings of apps you do use and you should run fine.

    Re: NOOB with a question...

OK, I'm gonna get rid of ATK, do I need a computer to install the ROM? I've soft modded Wiis before, and even my Eris way back when, and I needed to use my laptop for that, so I'm kind of expecting to have to, but it'd be cool if I could do everything from the galaxy

    What ROMs do y'all recommend?

Also, should I get the titanium first?

    Thanks in advance!
