I chose contacts because it's something I use every day and it's my phone. Camera funciton is secondary. BTW, the camera on AOSP takes very nice photos. I'm not sure what is lacking between this and the TW camera. I mean, it's the same lens and ccd. It's the same person holding the camera. Maybe face recognition? Maybe how it figures auto white balance, ISO, and things of that nature. Anyway, I've taken some very nice pics on AOSP.
I totally understand though, why a person would want to stick w/ TW simply to get the "better" camera. If you use your phone as your only camera or use it quite a bit then that is an important function of the phone and you want that to be as nice as possible. Then you of course care less that the contacts are so horribly implimented in TW compared to AOSP.
Also, you can always keep a nandroid of some TW rom. Then when you go on vacation or a birthday party you could switch back. But that would be a PITA and probably something you'd likely never do. Best to just choose one or the other and figure out hot to make it work for you.
Scott's CleanRom 3.0 appears to be the nom noms as well for a TW rom that's un-modified from stock in theme and function. 3.0 is updated to the new base I believe. Running fabulous on my GS3.. Has become my TW rom of choice since early on.

Thanks, spodoc. Honestly I don't use contacts all that often. I never use the phone, and I use the in-app search in Handcent most of the time. And I only use Hancent because of the threaded group MMS (which my iPhone friends use constantly, so this is a must). I really wish that feature was baked into the CM10 or AOKP messaging app. Someday.I chose contacts because it's something I use every day and it's my phone. Camera funciton is secondary. You're right, I have a feeling that the camera app built into AOSP is optimized for a different lens or ccd. I get a lot more washing out and less detail than I remember getting with TW. Plus it doesn't have HDR or full screen panorama, so I end up switching apps while taking photos.
JB is soo much better, though, that I'll be sticking with some non-TW ROM at least until I get an AT&T update. I've loved Paranoid Android except that camera issue.
