Updating samsung gs3

hey ! i need a small advice for somethin

i have an international gs3 that is on icecreamsandwich , i bought it from an operator , but i am using a different one (a guy unsimlocked it even if its unrooted don't know how and lost contact with this guy )

my question : the device often askin me to update the firmware , can i do it without havin issues like my phone rebecoming simlocked ? and do i loose the apps and info that i got in it if i update it ?

Welcome to the Forum. If your phone was purchased new it most likely is not rooted. Samsung has been pushing the new Jell Bean update and I would download it. If you have any problem lets us know.

Jeffrey... How much do you know about unlocking the SIM on these..?. After I read this I did some research trying to find out if the JB update would affect that...( I too am assuming it is a JB update.) I haven't really been able to locate anything definitive if the update could in anyway affect the unlocked SIM.......

1-the update that i am receiving is a jellybean update for sur
2- i couldn't find anything either on the internet
3- my gs3 WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW SIMLOCKED then unsimlocked WITHOUT ROOTIN and not at the network's provider store

i m willin to get the new update on my cell , i heard that je jb was great , sooo should i do it or not ? any risks ?

Worst case scenario is you are going to LOSE the UnlockedSIM which means it may not work for data or calls and you would have to get it unlocked again... Otherwise it wouldn't affect anything....

Most international S3's are SIM unlocked. I don't think that Sammy direct updates checks the SIM status. Those who have the international version are not locked in to a carrier as we have paid full price for the phone. We can change SIM cards anytime. In fact many have more then 1 SIM for use in areas where they get poor reception with their main carrier. I believe the UK has carrier contracts and those phones may be locked. Carrier pushed updates may check the SIM status I really don't know for sure.
