Duplicate SMS Messages

I used to have this problem all the time on my Droid X, and now it's still happening to my new phone. I read somewhere that Lookout causes this, so I uninstalled it, but no dice. I'm on Verizon.

Does anyone else have this issue? Are there any solutions? Thanks!

Oh Jeff. I had that nonsense happen on my DX too. It seemed to start when I installed a different messaging program (GOsms) Did you install an additional one?

I think I uninstalled the stock messenger or tried to when I couldn't find a way to turn it off.

Eventually that worked for me but there are people way smarter than me and I'm sure someone will come up with the correct way. God I hate that!

I am not one of those smarter people...but...I had that issue with my razr and removed the SIM card, powered off, put back in and did not have the issue again.

Some say the SIM card is not seated propperly, some say a bad SIM card all together.

Maybe there's an issue with verizon? I know some people on the dx forum were complaining about this issue.

I thought that the duplicate messages was a known issue for the DX, and the .621 update was Verizon's fix for it. I was not expecting this problem to carry over to my new phone!

I've actually had this issue for a long time now. It happened on my Charge and was hoping the S3 wouldn't do that....but it does. Sigh. It seems to only happen with some contacts vs all but I have never found any kind of specific pattern except I almost always get doubles from my hubby.

I use Go SMS and have disabled notification in stock app. Little nervous about doing the SIM card thing after had issues activating my phone. I had to go into Verizon for another one. I've just lived with it thinking maybe it had to do with the Rom I was on at the time. I'm not rooted...at least until tonight.

Only times I've encountered this is when using an alternative messaging app - such as GOSMS Pro or handcent. Its caused by not disabling the notifications for the default messaging app. I've heard of this being an issue with Verizon, and usually getting a new SIM card fixes it. Only exception being the DX which as someone else stated the .621 update fixed.

Yes, on Sprint and having this issue with two S3's. Have you discovered a fix for this yet?
