Thanks. Just tried that. Now how is the best way to clear cache / data etc to clean up things . Search history etc?
I go to storage then clear cache. Is that correct?

Yes that's fine. Or you can clear cache and data for the seprat apps in Application manager.

BUTdon't do it too often ... Android is very good at the task itself. If you clear cache too often the different apps take longer to start when you want them, because they are not ready in the memory - and that drains the battery more than nessecary. I do it about once a month - and many people would say it's too much. But I like it that way

I have most everything set to "not" update automatically or set to less often like my weather app on my home screen.
I check two places when not sure what is using power, both in Settings.
One is the Battery. It shows what is using your battery graphically.
The other place is Application Manager. Then slide the menu to Running. Some apps are running that I don't use. I've deleted some I can't get to stop. Others I've turned off there after rebooting.

When the phone was new or when I did a factory reset, I spent a lot of time in every setting I could find changing them to a reduced mode or turning off automatic settings. But I can't remember all of that and it takes a few days. Just getting old.

Good Question, some you know, some have abbreviated names that are hard to get answers on. Some have the same name multiple times. I have turned some off just testing, not deleting.

Denny is right some you can google and chose to delete or not.

A phone should lose 1-2% battery/hr overnight. If you get less than that I envy you. If you get more than that then either you are having unusual battery drain or you battery is toast. Take the battery out and lay it on a table. It you can spin it easily then it is swollen so you need to replace. If it doesn't want to spin, it is probably OK but for a few bucks you can replace it. Since you have a tough problem, it may make sense to buy a new battery anyway.

Once you rule out battery, if you still have a drain then you must decide whether it is app driven or signal driving drain. If you live in a poor signal area, it is likely signal driven. You can put the phone in airplane mode and the turn on wifi. This will allow apps to sync but will isolate the radio. If you go back to 1-2%/hr overnight drain then it is your bad signal and you'll have to live with it or find a new carrier. If still drains, then it's narrowed down to an app. I would do a factory reset and not install any apps or email for a few days. Hopefully you see it go back to normal. If not, your phone could just be really old and things are shorting out.

If the factory reset cures it then just slowly add apps back on until you see decreased performance again. You'll ID that rogue app eventually.
