    Imei: Null/Null and baseband: uknown

Hi! A friend of mine gave me a samsung galaxy S3. He said to me that the phone is network locked. I put my sim but it didn't asked me network code unlock. The phone does not have a reception and in the settings says baseband: uknown and when I put *#06# it says Imei: Null/Nul. Is this a problem from the phone or because it is locked?
    Thank you!

Lots of variables and lots of possibilities. Would need more info.

Null imei can happen naturally and needs to be restored to match the sticker on the back. You will not get service till that number is restored.

First thing I'd do is call the carrier and confirm the imei on the sticker is free and in the clear. If the phone is stolen, the conversation ends here.

If unpaid bill you are out of luck until the person pays the bill. The carrier won't release the imei till its paid.

Edit: just re-read. I've seen imei all zeros but not "null." Might be more serious than corrupt imei. Odin flash would also be in order just to get things back to stock.

If clean imei, then you can proceed with attempting imei restore to match the sticker on the phone.

Is there any other way to check that the imei is clean? The only solution is contacting the carrier?
Forget it. I am doomed. There is no sticker at the back with the imei. Is there I can do without having the original imei?

The only option we can offer is to take it to your carrier and have them inspect it... They will need to verify that the phone is not stolen. If it is not then they will have (or at least should have) the technology to get the phone up and running again.

Take the cover off and look under the battery. And yes, the carrier is where to go. If you are afraid to go to them, then I suspect you know more than you are saying here.

The sticker from the back cover isn't there. Someone has pull it away. I don't know on which this phone is locked. I just asked my friend and he said to me that he bought it from ebay. Not much informations I know. Maybe it is best to give it to him back and try to return it to the ebay seller. I can take it to my carrier but I don't think that they could do something.

    Welcome to the forum!
There is no reason for someone to remove that sticker (which is very difficult to remove I might add) unless it was stolen. As Miller pointed out, the information on said sticker is needed in order to get it activated with your carrier.
You might ask your friend where he got the phone before you take it in to have your carrier look at it, and you end up taking the heat for being in possession of stolen property. Hopefully that isn't the case.
    Good luck.

Ebay? Null imei? No sticker? You have a worthless phone. Give it back and walk away.

I know where it is but it is missing. I will return it and tell my friend to send it back to the seller! There is no need to search it more. You probably are right and the best solution is to return it.
