    -1 unread count in email

I have a rooted (stock) Sprint S3 and recenetly I have been having an issue with the email count. When I check the email the correct count is showing, as soon as I either delete them all or mark them all as read I get a -1 showing in the count on the main screen. I have cleared the cache and re-loaded the account and this fixed it for a while but then it came back. I am attaching a screen cap to show the issue.

    Any ideas?

Hello Sam1 and Happy New Year!
When you say you cleared cache, was it for the stock email app (Menu>>Settings>>Application manager>>go to “ALL” at the top to show all apps, then scroll down to “Email” and clear cache and data there)? NOTE: clearing data will clear all personal settings in your email account.
One other trick to try is from the home screen press the “home” button until the task manager pops up on the left side of the screen. Go to “RAM” and clear memory. I used to do this before Jellybean to clear the message flags from the messaging app.
Give this a shot if you have not and hopefully it will work for you.
By the way, what version of OS are you running? Is it ICS or JB?

I have cleared the email cache and deleted my account and re-added and the issue went away for a while but then it came back after a few weeks.
I re-boot my phone at least twice a day (when replaceing the battery) and it still doesn't clear it up.
    I am running JB.
    Any other ideas?

I just checked and I have nothing in any folder right now, I went and deleted all my trash email, I checked all fdolders and there are no emails anywhere. Now the phone shows -2 as the unread count.

When you say you cleared email cache, I'm assuming you mean you sent to settings > apps and did it there?

As much of a headache as it might be, I think this might clear it up... Start with clearing the data on the launcher:

Settings > app manager > all > TouchWiz Home > Clear Data

After you do that, go ahead and "start from scratch" on your email as well:

Back out of TouchWiz Home, then look for Email, then Clear Data there as well.

It'll be resetting your home screen to the way it was out of the box, and you'll have to input your email info again, but hopefully that clears it up. If not, I'm sorry for the time / hassle it took!

I think JNT is on the right track... The bubble notifications actually come from within the SystemUI and TW framework not just the report from the email app.... When clearing the data for TW you will have to set up all of your screens again..... I would look into possible a different launcher (Nova or Apex) or a different email app (K9).... I know it is kind of unacceptable to have to replace the stock apps on such a top notch phone but Sammy did miss the ball BIG TIME with the stock email app......

Yeah every time I've had a count / notification problem like that, clearing the launcher's data has fixed it. Hopefully that works in this case!

OK thank you all, I will take some time over the weekend to try this out, I need to make some notes for myself about how I had some things set up since I really like the layout I have now and want to replicate it.

One easy way to take notes would be take a bunch of screen shots and transfer them to your computer. That will give you a visual reference if you need to set things up again.
