    Cell standby question

My battery life is going from bad to worse and I am reading as much as I can and trying to learn as much as I can. I do not have everything turned on on my phone - but I refuse to take my smartphone and turn it into a "dumb phone" by turning everything off - if I wanted a non-smartphone I would have bought one.

Anyway, here is my screen shot of my latest check on battery use. I am noticing that cell standby is always number one or two. My question is, does this look normal for cell standby, and if not, do you think a factory reset would help?

    Re: Cell standby question

Your screenshot doesn't show the percentage of battery left....do you recall what that said when you took the screenshot? Have you downloaded any apps lately and/or around the same time your battery life started dropping? Do you keep any of your gps options turned on? Reason i ask is, your maps percentage it's showing up, and using the maps app drains you're battery quick. (so does leaving on the gps)

    Re: Cell standby question

If I remember correctly,, cell standby is when the phone is actually searching for signal. There's is a setting on my dx2 that alerts me to use airplane mode if no signal is present. do u have good signal strength? If not that maybe why cell stand by is so high. I'm no techie so I may stand to be corrected.

I have everything turned on and get good life. Charge your phone to 100%. Unplug. Let sit for 6 or more hours. Don't touch it. Then turn on and immediately take a screenshot of battery use. Divide percent drained by hours sitting at rest.

Mine uses 0.5%/hr with none of my apps or email installed. With all my apps, widgets, and email I get 0.9%/hr.

If you are seeing around 1%/hr resting drain you are fine.

Also download gsam battery monitor. It tells you specific app usage

Doh! Thanks spodoc! Didn't bother looking at his status bar. :screwy: lol

over 3 hours with almost 90% left is pretty good imo.

Good point Jeffery. Not sure what "normal" is either, but 15-18% is usually what i average.

you could also turn the brightness on your screen down some. that would also help reduce the drain. set it to where you are comfortable viewing it and see if thast helps out. it probably won't make a gigantic difference, but it will help some.

    Re: Cell standby question

Also, isn't there a bug where cell standby reports higher usage than it should? Just checked my battery use for today. Been unplugged for 5:40. Screen time is 40 minutes. Cell standby 38%. Screen 22%.
