"samsung keyboard has stopped working"- anyone know how to fix this?

This is driving me NUTS. Seriously. It's making an otherwise amazing phone really unpleasant to use.

Randomly, at least once a day- during regular use in apps or messaging the stock keyboard will randomly stop working. I'll be happily typing along, it'll pause for a minute or so and the message "samsung keyboard has unfortunately stopped working" or something along those lines and it leaves the keyboard inaccessible until I reboot the phone. I've seen others say they download a different keyboard from the app store but are there others that will keep the swype and voice text features? I use the voice text/typing thing all the time. It's my favorite feature of the phone.

I'm at the point of frusteration with this issue that I'm about ready to contact Samsung about it.

Any ideas at all?

Hello Starks and welcome to the forum! Your phone is
force closing on you. Two things to try:
Menu- Settings- application manager-All-
Scroll down to the Samsung keyboard and clear cache, clear data, try using keyboard again.
If the problem is still there, you can try a factory reset.
Make sure and save all pictures, contacts, and other data first. If that does not work
you may want a replacement phone. If your phone is still within the 14 day replacement option for a
new phone, I would do that

Yes I agree try clearing the data on the keyboard that should do the trick.

hello! Sorry for the delay, I assumed I'd get emails when I got responses. I was wrong!

So late last night my keyboard failed AGAIN despite having cleared the cache and doing a battery pull. I never tried clearing the data because honestly I didn't know what that meant and whether doing it could screw something up farther. I did a battery pull for this second fail within 24 hrs yesterday and ended up downloading the swiftkey 3 keyboard.. I haven't used my phone a lot today, but so far no fails.. we'll see what happens. I'll keep you posted. If it happens with the new keyboard I suppose I'll have no choice but to do the fectory reset since I've had the phone for about a month now.

I would give a third party keyboard a try starks. I think you'll be hard pressed to find too many of us that actually use the stock keyboard anymore....especially when there are so many better ones available on the play store. I understand the iPhone had a decent stock keyboard, but unfortunately that's not always the case on Android phones. Not that they're bad per se', there's just much better ones available imo.

I like the stock keyboard except how it predicts the text in line of what you are typing. I bought swift key 3 a few weeks ago but just realized yesterday at some point I bought slide it keyboard.... Must have been back before I started flashing on my tbolt..... But SwiftKey is a great keyboard
