Is it just my phone? Horrible speeds on Tmobile

I just got my new s3 last week after returning an iphone 5. I upgraded from an ancient google1.
I've read a LOT about what speeds to expect on an s3, even with tmobile's old network... most list around 12-15 for download speeds.
But I'm not getting anywhere close to the benchmarks I've read. here's my speedtest.net results.. all from the same location
    Ping speeds: best - 115ms, MOST are about 1200, worst - 1705
    upload: best - 1.65mbps, MOST are about 1.5, worst - .06
    download: best - 6.51mbps, MOST between 2-5, worst - 1.59

I've experienced lags in sending emails and getting notifications, downloading apps, and opening websites like facebook. Ack.

I called tmobile who said they thot it was becuz they are rebuilding the towers in our area to upgrade NEXT year to LTE.

I'm wondering if I should switch providers and keep the phone? Or stick with tmobile and get a different s3.

Or is there something on the current phone I need to check first.

Welcome to the forum Karen. Unfortunately Tmo is not known for having fast speeds on their current network. Depending on your location, it'll be awhile before they get good LTE coverage. Verizon currently the largest LTE coverage, and depending on your location AT&T will have decent speeds as well.
    Good luck!

+1 and with tmobiles merger with metro PCS who knows if that will speed up the process or slow it down. I know when Verizon bought Alltel my service was fubar for a little while.

Just keep in mind that your S3 is a TMO S3. If you got to VZ you will need a new phone

I live in Alabama and get speeds like you are getting. That is just T-Mobile. The LTE will start rolling out next year, but our S3's are on the wrong frequency for us to use it. Like someone else has already stated if you leave T-Mobile the frequency in the T-Mobile S3 will not work with their "4G".

If you are running a custom ROM, check settings as many ROMS allow you to select 4G/LTE
