Rediculous.I did a factory reset and it's still saying service unavailable. Now I'm frustrated.
I'm guessing its a server issue. Don't worry about it, there is no updates. If you are on the one that ends in 7 then you are up-to-date. Also even if your phone fails finding an update somewhere down the line I'm sure I could find the update.zip and provide it to you and you could flash it in recovery manually.
Its really not a big deal at all and I wouldn't worry about it. The OTA system in general is not something I trust at all, besides the fact Verizon can sneak whatever they want in there, have also seen plenty of devices bricked by OTAs. This is IMO of course (though not the bricked devices, those were real....)

Ok I got the scenario. Whoever else is having this issue needs to call their carrier and have them send you a replacement phone. I have Verizon and I called the tech, he ended up calling Samsung on 3 way. Samsung had no explanation for the issue besides that I would have to send my phone to Samsung directly and they would have to flash it. Meaning replace the hardware. Well I cannot afford to go without a phone so under warranty Verizon is sending me a replacement phone. So apparently this isn't a server issue it's a hardware issue.
Well along with service Unavailable I have been getting a pop up that says server error at random times. When I just turn it on, when I'm in an app, or when I'm just on my home screen. I guess I'll go ahead and call Verizon tomorrow. I hope they Are as easy for me to deal with as they were for you. I get kinda tired of starting over with these phones...but I want one that works the way it's suppose to work.

Mine was doing exactly what yours is. Got my replacement phone and it's perfect. They SHOULD overnight you a new phone as they did me. I also have insurance but they claimed this issue under manufacture warranty.
It's encouraging to hear that the replacement phone is perfect. I'll let you know how it goes...

And FYI...their gonna ask if you did a factory reset and just tell them yes bc I did one before I even called them and it did absolutely nothing. Good luck!
Called Verizon today...had to after my o honelocked me out. I only use the swipe as a lock screen but when I went back to my phone it was locked with a password. I could make emergency phone calls but couldn't get into the phone at all. Really really weird. I hadn't touched those settings. Anyway they didn't give me a hassle about replacing it at all. Another tech had the S3 and checked for a system update and found it said the same Thing. A call to Samsung didn't help either. Maybe it isn't a phone issue but with the few quirks I was having I just felt better with a replacement. Should be here tomorrow.

Locked with a password? Now trays just creepy. But at least you'll have a new one.
