    An eye for an eye

I search EYE Symbol and nothing showed up so forgive me if this has been answered.

A couple of weeks ago I got an eye symbol with 3 lashes next to my bluetooth symbol. I assumed it was related to an new application I started earlier that day. The problem was that something was sucking my battery power at full throttle.

After the phone died and I recharged it, having shut down the suspected app, the symbol did not return and my battery usage returned to normal.

Today, perhaps because I was in a zone with very poor reception, or perhaps not, the power started draining again. I was able to keep the phone charged enough to get home to my desktop base. At some point, later this evening, the eye showed up again. I suspect whatever it represents was drawing power all day. When I went to battery usage, 79% was Android system, with no specific information on what service was responsible.

When this is present my phone is very fast to drain and very slow to charge. It's like fighting an uphill battle.

Does anyone know about the seeing EYE???

Go into settings, display, smart stay. If the box is checked, that means your front facing camera is keeping track of your face/eye movements (in order to keep your screen activated) which uses a lot of battery to operate. Uncheck the box and your battery will last longer and the "eye"in your notification bar will go away.

    Sounds like Rom Manager's symbol.

It's the keep awake. Even if it sees your eyes and you blink in the half-second it's active, your screen still dims after a second, so there's really no point in having it on at the moment. Maybe in the JB update that's coming right out we'll see more utility from it.

It's easy enough to disable... just go to:
Settings: Display and uncheck Smart stay

    Thank you all.

I sort of gleamed this but what was odd was the battery draining while in the holster. It should not have been doing this while the phone was not in use.

No, it shouldn't have. What was the main culprit?

    Cool Eye icon on s3

    (quote)
Eye icon on S3 is part of the smart stay feature. quick appearance and disappearance of eye icon indicates that it is recognizing your eyes using front camera and prevents the screen from dimming/ going off.
you can switch it off by going to Settings---Display---smart stay and unchecking the box against it. this will save battery drain and increase battery life
however I suggest against it if you are in the habit of downloading documents and reading them from mobile as smartstay will prevent the screen from dimming while you are reading. otherwise you will have to keep touching the screen to keep it alive.

more problematic is when the eye icon stays on continuously. i had this problem after i tried to put on flash lite app which did not come on. since then the eye icon remained on and the battery kept on draining rapidly. i suspected something to do with the camera flash and put on the camera. the camera came up and the camera screen was dark. all camera controls were visible but nothing was working. i restarted the device and voila ! the eye icon disappeared and camera was working normally. unfortunately I had removed the flash lite so dont know about its fate.

hope it has answered your query adequately.
