message notification sounds suddenly stopped working

I have selected message sounds they all play, gone into volume settings every thing is at maximum, screen sounds, phone ring tones etc all work. but no message arrived sounds. anyone got a clue please.

Have you tried doing a soft reboot? (turning phone off, then back on?)

Hi Kraven yes tried that. Don't think I've tried taking out the battery. I'll give it a try.

Ok that didn't work. (Removing the battery) any other thoughts?

Have you checked your notification settings in the messaging app? Stupid question I know. But, on other phones I've had it switch over to a silent tone before.

Hi Tyrthas. Yes thanks for replying. I've selected chirp it's still in there. Settings seem good.

And you've gone into the messages app hit menu > settings and checked it's notification settings? Since you've got the system default and individual app settings it can get a little screwy from time to time.

If using handcent, go in its settings and turn notification on, choose ring tones (belie its set at silent as default). Make sure stock messenger notifications are off.

Hi there pull down the status bar (from top of your phone) and enable Notifications (green light) then it should work i did it with my s3, and then it worked fine

I don't have a Notifications tab on my at&t galaxy s3. how else can I fix this? I'm going nuts!
