If you're using Odin to install the full ICS factory image, it should work (famous last words! ). Did you give it enough time? Sometimes that first boot can take a few minutes longer than normal.

It also might be worth trying again, and going into the stock recovery (hold down volume-up, home-button, and power when you first boot) and doing a factory reset *after* using Odin to install the ICS factory image.

**Rooted? Custom ROM? Verizon user? Do This ASAP: Install this, open, type "su" (grant), type "reboot nvbackup". Phone reboots. Flash this file in custom recovery. Read this thread. 2 minutes possibly just saved you 2 hours.**

I'm wondering if you're using the right file in Odin - for a couple of reasons... First, it should be taking longer than it seems to be taking you to flash it in Odin, and second, the fact that it's hanging like that. Can you point to the file you're using on the website Jeffrey linked?

Well I'm glad you're grateful, but it's all kinda futile if we can't figure it out!

Re: downgrade from jb to ics

You need to go back to ICS and wipe data in recovery after flash most likely. JB data is not compatible with ICS data. Be careful tho when you do that it formats the internal SD in stock recovery, so make sure you move important files first.
