    Samsung's Galaxy s3 photo app - data retention . . .

    New here - be patient please . . .

My settings in camera mode provide 16 items, among them: date & time, gps
    coordinates, size, resolution, and more.

Some operations, cloud backup for instance strips most of this data away.
Is there an app that will not strip and data? (Yes there are times when certain
data wants to be stripped, location perhaps)
Is there an app or a way to sort photo images on any of theses data items?
Retain or strip options? Ultimately desire to search and select photos for
    move/copyon on any-all data!
    I
I have added storage. I am moving and copying photos from "Device storage"
to "SD storage and custom folders in "My files". I've already lost some data - noncritical
    or replaceable.

Would be super to have control of all data. I use Phonto to add comments or captions
    to some image's.

Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated. . .

Hey, Pete. Welcome to the forum. Glad you joined us. First, let me say I'm a Phonto fan too. I'm not sure about the data being removed from your pics. What I can share is how I keep all my pics safe. I have them auto upload to both Amazon (I'm a Prime member) & Dropbox. Good luck. Hopefully someone else will offer additional information.

I believe how these photos have that info is actually kept in a separate file in a different location.. Not sure why some cameras can "burn" that info into the jpeg file and some can not but they do. I am actually curious about this myself now so I'll do some research on ways to get that info to stick

I never keep the locations option set in my photos so I'm not sure about that one, and I've never heard of a method to remove any data from a pictures details. Is this the information you want to remove or edit? I'm pretty sure this information is burned into the photo and is not able to be edited. (Unless of course you use some root type method) I imagine it's made difficult for the general public for a number of security reasons.

Dropbox renames files. I'm not sure if it alters metadata. I will look when I have more time.

One way around this is to use es file explorer. It is my favorite file manager. You can manually copy or move files between your phone and many popular cloud storage options ( including Dropbox). When you do this manually, no changes occur to the file. Nothing should be stripped out.

if I'm not mistaken, they are named img001.jpg, img002.jpg,... on your phone. Dropbox changes the name to a date and time

What confuses me is that in my screenshot my pics already have their names as dates. Maybe something changed in lollipop.
