I'd noticed that when I'm on my wifi connection at home, downloads seem slower than over LTE. So today I ran speedtest.net on my laptop's wifi and had almost 20Mbps down, and over 6Mpbs up. Using the speedtest app on the phone, my wifi connection is less than 2Mbps down, and around 5Mbps up. When I disable wifi and connect using Lte, the download runs about 5.5Mbps and the upload is around 1Mbps.
Now I'm on the Verizon network, and when we got the phones this weekend, we had to renew our contract and we lost our unlimited data plan. It wouldn't surprise me if Verizon purposely throttles wifi connections to entice us to connect to Lte, therefore either incurring overage charges on the data or signing up for the higher data plans.
Has anybody else experienced the same thing? Is there any way to open the phone's wifi up to a more acceptable level?
