Jelly Bean update will block rooting process?

I heard that the Jelly Bean update coming ( on Verizon ) will have something built in that will block the phone from being rooted- even more than usual. Has anyone heard this? I am thinking of rooting but just trying to see all of my options. I don't want to accept the update only to find that i can't root it. I'm inexperienced in rooting so i'm trying to do research to increase my knowledge. Thanks in advance.

Most updates block root. Just root now, research what to freeze so updates don't occur, and a few days/weeks after the update drops we will have rooted stock that you can flash.

If you want root, don't update ota.

Example, fwupgrade.apk is one of the files you need to freeze to block update. Its not the only file.

Or install a rom and you won't have to worry

Great. Thanks for the info. I found what looks like a good ( and easy ) way to root in the forum so i think i will just root now and down the road get a jelly bean rom. I appreciate the quick response spodoc!

Good plan. Power users never take ota.

FYI, all the AOSP roms are jellybean right now. The modified stock roms will not be jellybean until after it drops for vzw of course.

You don't have to freeze anything any more. As long as you have the newest cwm installed you'll be fine. After installing the ota cwm will ask if you want to keep root and keep your recovery. Just say yes to both and it reboots just fine. I did this for the last 2 ota's. Great addition to cwm!

Personally I would freeze them just to be on the safe side. Especially if Jelly Bean comes out with more difficult root blocking features. It only takes a couple of seconds to freeze fwupgrade & SDM 1.0 and you'll be covered. Better to be safe than sorry. (Keep in mind Titanium Backup costs afew bucks in the Play Store, but it's well worth the money and is needed to freeze apps, bloatware, etc) Good luck and let us know if you need a hand with anything.

cw will not be able to stop the ota from flashing an encrypted bootloader, should Samsung/vzw decide to pull that nonsense like on motophones.

It is confirmed... The new JB OTA will lock the Bootloader and IS NOT ROOTABLE by any of the current methods..... So if you are looking at flashing an UNROOTED version keep this in mind.... It may be awhile before you could root it after accepting it....

I guess I should clarify.... The ODIN flashable leak is unrootable as is.... I am assuming the OTA will be the same way
