How to I rename my S3?

Hi everyone,

I'm a new member and have recently upgraded from my (rooted) DroidX to the S3. I love the S3 so far, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to change the device name? My old DroidX had a unique name that I set, and when I plugged it into my computer or went to Google Play, it would show the device name. The S3 shows as "SCH-I535" everywhere and I can't seem to figure out how to change it to something else. I tried Google for an answer but only found how to rename if for Bluetooth, which I did, but which doesn't change it from being displayed by its current device name anywhere else. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this, preferably without rooting?

Why on earth would u want to rename?? and what do u mean by it anyway?? does it do something to the phone??

While it's connected to your pc, have you tried right clicking on the current name sch-i535, and seeing if a menu pops up to rename it? That's usually how I rename folders on my pc, so you might give that a try.

I don't understand why you would respond to my question if you don't understand the question at all. I want to rename the device. That means it will show the name I give it (let's say I want to call it Bob, for the sake of the argument) in my Google Play account or when it's connected to the computer, instead of the device name, SCH-I535. Why? Because I want to.

I hadn't actually tried that - but that works, thanks. I also went to Google Play via the computer and changed the device name in the settings. Easier to keep track of multiple phones (I have several that use the same gmail address, so they all show up in the same Google Play account) when they have unique names.

I think I have an answer to your question. It took me a little while to figure it out.

• Go into Settings
• Select "Bluetooth"
• Select the left navigation button (List/Options?) at the bottom of the phone (not the Home or Back buttons - I don't know what it is called)
• Select "Device name"
• Type in the new name that you want
• Select "OK"

Hopefully that helps.
