You can always ODIN back to earlier firmware if you want to regain universal search then just root and block the OTA.Losing the search is unacceptable for me. I don't like searching through menus for apps on my phone or on my Windows PC. Typing is simpler.
I decided to add Aurora Universal Search Pro. Seems pretty nice. I like the implementation of the indexing of text messages. I haven't tried it with the update yet.
So we can update, and then what would be the proper files to use to go back and be able to unlock the bootloader and root? Or can we root and unlock with the update installed? I kinda stopped paying attention and want to talk my fiance into rooting hers and blocking that crap.
As far as I understand if you are rooted there is NO reason to update. The only good thing is a new radio. But you can flash that separately. So why update just to Odin back to stock and reroot? Just seems like a lot of extra work.
Just DL the new radio, block ota, carry on.
My fiances new s3 has the newest ota. That's what I was referring to.As far as I understand if you are rooted there is NO reason to update. The only good thing is a new radio. Goose, has it been confirmed that we can odin back to earlier builds if the phone is on the newest ota? Would we just have to flash the system firmware or bootloader also? My plan is to root my fiances phone and unlock. To go back, just do the same thing I would do to mine? Restore stock backups, lock bootloader with ez unlock, then flash stock recovery, then flash odin stock image?

Just Odin the previous stock image and wipe data in factory recovery when done (warning: will wipe internal SD!) ODIN system image will flash stock boot loader, recovery, and system. You don't need to do the other stuff. If she is already on the newest OTA it roots the same method as before. The update is fully rootable/unlockable and revertable.

I agree completely - take the path of least resistance. Why do all the work to basically go in a circle?
I'm not even going to bother....my radio is perfect as is and don't need any of the other garbage.
tap'n
which radio do we keep reffering to? (im still a little slow sometimes lol)
