    Unwanted ads

I keep getting these ads from play store and dating sites. It pops up in my status bar (at the very top of the screen) as a red star. My question is ow do I stop it?

You probably have an app pushing ads to your device. If you download air push detector it will tell you which apps are sending you ads. You can choose to delete them from there.

Thanks for that may. I've often wondered that. Fortunately I don't have any now but a good app to have.

What may said. Have you gotten any music downloading apps lately? They've gotten bad about that.

Get this app, it will tell you what app is pushing these adds, it happened to me also:

You should also open up the Play store, go into settings, and make sure to uncheck the box that says "Google AdMob Ads". That will stop ads from popping up in your notification bar, without downloading any third party apps.

Thanks for the additional info. I followed the link and laughed when I saw the app author recommended another app over his own. Lol. I tried them both and have to agree the other app is better. Found a couple of culprits. So between C's recommendation and this app I should stop getting these stupid notifications. Well...the fact that I'm planning to root later today will help tons as well.

Yes without Adfree I found out a whole bunch of my favourite apps had ads. Number one reason to root in my opinion.

Check out AdAway. It blocks ads that get past AdFree. Again, you must be rooted to use it.
