Actually the old FM transmitter I use to listen to Pandora in my car transmits the call over the speakers. And if I turn on the speakerphone while on the call it turns it into a poor mans bluetooth. Actually works pretty good as long as the windows are up.

IBOLT, I looked on Amazon and only saw a couple reviews, not the best at that. Kick me down one and let me try it out. Maybe I'll be able to pass on some positive feedback for you. 2007 Camry

For many reasons a Bluetooth device with a dedicated DSP is needed if the other party should hear you well.
Thanks for your reply. I guess I'm just frustrated because the Droid X did this brilliantly, no Bluetooth (integrated or otherwise) needed. I could take calls through the car stereo using the aux input, and music or podcasts paused when the call came in. Simple, and perfect. I'm dumbfounded that the S3 doesn't have that type of functionality.

I have tried using the dock to listen to Google Play music, and it is not routing the sound through the aux cable. I have the 3.5mm plug plugged into my aux port on my car.

Actually, NONE of the sound is routing through the speakers. Is there some extra step that I am missing here?

May have found my issue, and will test shortly. Under Dock settings, Audio output mode was unchecked.

Yes, the Settings-Dock-Audio Output is usually the issue. We get daily calls about this and we try to spell it out everywhere.

Amazonfemme: You are very correct in your observation. This worked well on the original Droid X thanks to Motorola implementing this functionality in the software of the phone. They routed the audio from calls out to the car-speakers as well and they added a good echo and background noise cancelling into the phone itself so the microphone could be used in this scenario. We have not seen any such option on Samsung or HTC, thus they have to be connected to Bluetooth for making and receiving calls.

I wonder how many people have notified their carrier as well as Samsung regarding this issue, so hopefully they'll push through a fix in a future update.

Again, thank you for taking the time to explain the problem clearly. I understand it much better now. So it's a software issue, not hardware ... that gives me hope that we may see a fix at some point, as CR6 noted (whether through the manufacturer, the carrier, or outside development). I plan to contact both Samsung and Verizon about it.
